A small consortium of vintage car restorers had these axles cast in steel in order to replace the original forged axles on these cars.

I was asked to machine the critical features of the King Pins (angled drilling) and Cotter Pins on these axles in order to finish them for restoration projects.

One of the axles had lost one of the cast-in features (Cotter Pin Boss) and I was asked to find repair strategy that would replace this boss without welding.  (Welding can cause cracking of this type of steel and the boss was at a highly stressed part of the axle.)  The repair was achieved using a “screwed and glued” approach with the adhesive being a high strength high temperature cure type.
